Yvonne Klutts Fernandez

September 17, 1946 — April 6, 2011

Yvonne Klutts Fernandez, a long time resident of Morgan City, went to her heavenly rewards at her home on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in the spiritual embrace of her loving family. Her long and courageous battle against cancer brings to mind the words of the Irish poet Dylan Thomas: "Do not go gently into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." She was a fighter! She was born September 17, 1946, in Popular Bluff, Missouri, the daughter of Leonard W. Klutts a native of Cordova, TN and Enola Breaux Klutts, a native of Kaplan, LA. Mrs. Fernandez is survived by her husband of 47 years, B.C. Fernandez, of Morgan City; her daughter, Cynthia F. Sandner and husband Robert, of Cedar Rapids, IA; two sons, Charles Fernandez and his wife Christine, of Plainfield, IL, Clint Fernandez and his wife, Sara, of Houston, TX; one brother, Leonard W. Klutts, Jr., and his wife Edith, of Morgan City. She is also survived by her grandsons, Mason Sandner and Cade Fernandez. She was preceded in death by one son George H. Fernandez, her parents, one sister, Barbara Klutts Noriega Miller. During the 56 years in Morgan City she was active as a life guard and swimming instructor, a member of the Morgan City High School Sweetheart Court, a clerk at her father's store L.W. Klutts Jewelry, was a Maid in the courts of the Shrimp and Festival and the Krewe's of Hephaestus and Galatea. She was a board member of the Krewe of Galatea, Girl Scout leader, a religion instructor, and also a tennis mom. She was a chairperson of the Cleanest City Contest for the Morgan City Garden Club, and was honored by the City of Morgan City as a Positive Image Person and for her efforts on behalf of the city's 100th and 125th birthdays. Her greatest joy in life came from being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a special caring and loving person who enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends. She was also good at cooking, gardening, quilting, crocheting, cross stitching, and fishing at her Stephensville camp. Her family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to her health care providers, to all the individuals and prayer groups that prayed on her behalf, and to her many relatives and friends who gave much of themselves during her long illness. Pallbearers will be Mason Sandner, Robert Sandner, Leonard Klutts, Jr., Marvin Louviere, Dr. James Noriega, and Neil Broussard. Visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Twin City Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume Friday, April 8, 2011 from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM officiated by Father Greg Fratt. Interment will follow at the Morgan City Cemetery.
