Alvy Anthony DeHart, 87, a native of Terrebonne Parish, and resident of Bayou Vista, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his home.
He was born October 23, 1923 in Terrebonne Parish, the son of Malcolm and Laura Eve Aucoin DeHart. On August 2, 1947 he married Ena Marie Chauvin and together they enjoyed 63 years of marriage, and she survives of the home.
Alvy was a simple man, carpenter by trade, who enjoyed jig saw puzzles, gardening and working in the yard, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He served his country during WWII by serving in the Army. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Golden Age 49ers, Holy Name Society, and was also an usher at St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife; Ena Marie Chauvin DeHart, of Bayou Vista; one son, Chris DeHart, and his wife, Gail, of Bayou Vista; one daughter, Cindy Marie DeHart Pentecost, of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Shantell DeHart Toups, and husband Lance, Scott DeHart, and wife Brandie, Melanie DeHart Griffin, and husband Joel, Michelle Pentecost, and husband Robert Smith. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Morgan Toups, Cade Toups, Gabriel DeHart, Rusty Cutrera; one brother, Rogers DeHart, of Berwick.
Alvy was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lorenza DeHart Moore; four brothers, Avery DeHart, Algie DeHart, Rudolph DeHart, Evans DeHart.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Twin City Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista. Alvy will be laid to rest with military honors in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.
