Lillian Gertrude Powell Hebert July 5, 1921 June 15, 2011 Lillian Gertrude Powell Hebert, 89, a native of Kentwood and a resident of Morgan City entered into heaven to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 15, 2011 at her son’s residence peacefully. Lillian was born to Fannie and Percy Powell and was the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Spring Creek Elementary and high school. While in high school she played basketball. Upon graduating high school she attended Southeastern where she graduated with a B.A. degree in Home Economics. She even played basketball in college. Lillian continued her education at Nicholls University where in 1973 she received her B.A. degree in elementary education. After graduating she taught one year at Weeks Island in Iberia Parish. The following year, she came to M.D. Shannon in Morgan City as a replacement teacher. During this year she refereed basketball games on a high school level. The very next year she became a fourth grade teacher and taught this grade until she retired. She loved and cherished her students very much. Lillian stayed active and loved her time spent with her family, who were her joy in life. Lillian enjoyed going back to her family home to the country in Tangipahoa Parish. She was also a member of Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City. Lillian will be missed tremendously by her family and friends who love her very much. Lillian is survived by her only son, Percy Francis Hebert and his wife, Angela Mary Drash Hebert; one granddaughter, Corp. Amanda Victoria Hebert Roy and her husband, Staff Sergeant Josh of North Carolina and one great granddaughter, Alexis Nicole Roy; one sister, Bobbie Lambert along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Francis S. Hebert of 56 years; her parents, Fannie and Percy Powell; three brothers: Ruben, Fredrick and Albert Powell; two sisters: Nancy and Iris Stevens. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Twin City Funeral Home starting at 5pm until 10pm and resume on Monday, June 20, 2011 at the funeral home beginning at 8am until 1pm until the service at 1pm. She will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery. Percy would like to personally thank all the care-givers that attended to his mother over the years. Your compassion made this time in life bearable.
