David Joseph Swiber

David Joseph Swiber, 52, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Bayou Vista passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2011. He worked in the oilfield for 30 plus years with the last 13 of those years traveling to various cities and states. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a generous, caring, loving, and hard working man. David made friends easily no matter where he went or how long he stayed. His passion was spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and camping. He especially loved spending time at "the camp" down the bayou. He was known as "POP" by all his friends that knew him well. David is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carlene Blankenship Swiber, of Bayou Vista; two sons, Kenneth Freeman and wife Jennifer, of Bridge City, Texas, and Brian Freeman of Bayou Vista; one daughter, Stacey Freeman Nickelson and husband Tommy, of Patterson; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his loving parents, Henry and Mae Swiber, Sr., of Morgan City; three brothers, Henry Swiber, Jr. and wife Dianne, of Morgan City, Mike Swiber and wife Paula, of Morgan City, Dennis Swiber of Morgan City; four sisters, Pat Autrey and husband Ray, of Morgan City, Marie Fromenthal and husband Rodney, of Morgan City, Denise Ritchie and husband John, of Morgan City, Barbara Strader and husband Tom, of Berlin, New Jersey; numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Twin City Funeral Home. David will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
