Velma Verret, 88, a resident of Amelia, passed away October 16, 2007 at her residence.
Velma was born November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m. when the Peace Treaty was signed to end World War I. She was also born the 11th child of the family.
Velma is survived by her son, S.J. Verret Jr., her daughter, Tracy Benoit Duval. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; Noble Benoit, Trevor Benoit, Vincent Benoit, Adele Benoit Gotham, Chuck Walters, Monique Verret and Heather Verret Wochik, her seven great-grandchildren; Andre Wochik, Lucas Wochik, Krista Lynn Walters, Braden Walters, Audrey Gotham, Jordan Benoit and Raleigh, and her great-great-grandchild, Myra Walters and her son-in-law, Charles W. Walters.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Verret Sr., her daughter, Alice Walters, her son-in-law, Noble Benoit, her parents, Trasimond and Alice L. Verret, nine brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. and officiated by Father Charles Perkins and Father Gregg Fratt.
She will be laid to rest in the St. Andrew Cemetery in Amelia.
Pallbearers will be Noble Benoit, Trevor Benoit, Vincent Benoit, Charles “Chuck” Walters, Kevin Gotham and Lonie Dupre.
