Sheldon M. Ledet, 74, a lifelong resident of Morgan City passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012.
Sheldon will be remembered, cherished and missed. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of several local community organizations throughout his life. His service to his country and community continued with countless hours of volunteer work during times of disaster, aid to those in need, as well as to our military when our national guard was mobilized.
Sheldon was a dedicated and valued member of the business community for more than four decades. During such time not only did he help enrich the lives of his customers through personal customer service but also had his hand on the pulse of Morgan City and did what he could to make the town a better place to live.
He will be deeply missed by his many friends and relatives alike. His infectious and charismatic laugh will endure forever in the hearts, minds, and memories of all who knew him. He enjoyed his work, loved his customers, and cherished every moment he was able to share with all.
He was a devoted and dedicated father and husband. He understood the value of family, sacrifice, forgiveness, love, and hope. He instilled those values in his family. He was a man of conviction and integrity only wanting to do what was right and good. He believed in tradition and value and lived by these codes. He was a true fighter all the way to the end. A true son of God by action, thought, and word.
Survivors include his ever beloved Marie, who brought much joy and laughter to his life; three children, Dawn L. Ladner and husband Phil of Trinidad, Colorado, Freddie P. Ledet II of Morgan City, Phillip K. Ledet and wife Tammy of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Ashley N. Whitewing, Jeramy M. LeCompte and wife Kori, Blain M. Ledet, Kaitlyn Ledet, Caleb Ledet; three step-children, Clay Daigle of Lafayette, Billie Landry and husband Francis of Morgan City, Penny Dugas and husband Casey of Lafayette. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Ceciel Ladet; wife Gracie D. Ledet; three brothers, Gail F. Ledet and Kent P. Ledet, Dave Javins; one sister-in-law Terry Gaudet.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Sheldon will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
