Maria Schmeling Collins

Maria Schmeling Collins 84, a resident of Morgan City passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Teche Regional Medical Center. Maria was born on October 18, 1927 in Roloffseck, East Prussia the daughter of Ferdinand J. Schmeling and Wilhelmine Lech Schmeling. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Thomas J. Collins and James J. Collins; two daughters, Karen C. Marin and Lynn C. Theriot; eleven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand J. Schmeling and Wilhelmine Lech; husband Albert "Buddy" Collins; two brothers, Alfred Schmeling and Johannes Schmeling. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Maria will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Avenue Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601-7633.
