Josephine "Josie" C. DiMatteo

Josephine "Josie" C. DiMatteo, a resident of Morgan City, was taken to heaven by her Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 11, 2012 at precisely 3:00 p.m., surrounded by family and friends, during the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Josie was born on August 11, 1925 in Willard, Ohio the daughter of Pete and Mary Friscillo Cavallo. Prior to moving to Morgan City in 1961, she and her family resided in Houma, LA for many years. Josie loved to cook and bake for her family; sharing recipes with her granddaughters. She was famous for her homemade cherry cheesecake, Italian gnocchi, chocolate candy bar cake and homemade strawberry cake. She enjoyed walking, cutting her grass, and bike riding until she was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2011. She was a member of the Ladies Alter Society of Sacred Heart Church. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Jeannie Landry and husband Chris of Morgan City; her son, John DiMatteo, Jr. and wife Terri of Patterson, son Jeffery DiMatteo; eight grandchildren, Cherie Garrett and husband Richey of Youngsville, Melissa Deshotels and husband James of Baton Rouge, Gary Duhon, Jr. and wife Kristi of Stillwater, Oklahoma, James Duhon and wife Cherie of Morgan City, Christina Harrison and husband Blaze of Berwick, Matthew DiMatteo and wife Leah of Stephensville, Brandon DiMatteo and wife Melanie of Patterson, and Christopher DiMatteo and wife Bethany of Morgan City. Josephine leaves behind nineteen great-grandchildren and one on the way! Josie was preceded in death by her parents Pete and Mary Cavallo; brother, Anthony "Tony" Cavallo; great-granddaughter Madison Marie Duhon; daughter-in-law Melinda DiMatteo. A time of visitation will be observed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Morgan City on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Patterson. The family of Ms. DiMatteo would like to thank Journey Hospice, especially Claudine Ibert, Amanda Brewer, and Colette Poiencot for their devotion and loving care.
