Irvin Joseph Loupe Sr. September 5, 1926 September 13, 2012 Irvin Joseph Loupe Sr. passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012 surrounded by his wife and children. He was the last surviving member of the family of Leo Paul Loupe and Evela Cortez Loupe. He is survived by Joyce Landry Loupe, his wife of 59 years and their three children: Irvin Loupe Jr. and his wife, Carla, Julie Loupe Aucoin and her husband, Mark and Allison Loupe Osburn. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Troy Osburn. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Christopher, Catherine, Matthew, and Bethany Loupe, Brittany Richard, Daisy Broussard, Shelbi Aucoin, Nicholas and Caroline Osburn as well as five great grandchildren: Abby and Leo Paul Loupe, Lexie, Leah and Lahna Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Paul and Evela Loupe; four sisters: Beulah Delaune, Lynn Fields, Ledora Fangue and Beatrice Landry. Mr. Loupe was a veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific theater on board the troop carrier U.S.S. Henry Tucker. He assisted in the evacuation of American troops and Japanese prisoners after the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. While serving in the U.S. Navy during the war, he received the Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. Mr. Loupe was one of the first ship captains in the history of the oilfield. As Captain of a Pan Marine cargo vessel, he was commissioned by the Coast Guard to aid in the rescue of survivors and recovery of deceased residents of Cameron, LA after Hurricane Audry in 1957, an experience that he often mentioned affected him more than his participation in WWII. He retired from Tidewater Marine and again from Lee Vac Marine after working 44 years in the oilfield. As a true member of the greatest generation Mr. Loupe had a tremendous work ethic and never wavered in his loyalty to God, family and country. He will be greatly missed. A time of visitation will be observed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, September 15, 2012 beginning at 8:30am until 11:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Morgan City Mausoleum provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad. Catherine Loupe will give the eulogy and David Fangue will say the prayer of the faithful. Serving as pall bearers will be Christopher Loupe, Matthew Loupe, Nicholas Osburn, Troy Osburn, Mark Aucoin and Gerald Fields. Great grandson, Leo Paul Loupe will serve as honorary pall bearer.
