Preston “Joe” LaPointe, 83, born in Vermillion Parish on October 23, 1924 passed away at Morgan City Health Care Center on November 13, 2007.
Joe was a member of the American Legion and AARP. He was also a fighter pilot in World War II and was a boxer in the service. Joe was also known for his tall tales and stretching the truth.
He is survived by four sons; Joseph F. LaPointe of Bayou Vista, Charles J. LaPointe and Hazel LeJeune of Berwick, Thomas E. LaPointe and his wife Patty of Ecleckic, Alabama and Preston J. LaPointe Jr. and his wife Shirley of Lincoln, Nebraska, his daughter, Pamela M. Aucoin and her husband Adrian of Berwick and his half-brother Ewell Guidry. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and by a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude F. LaPointe, his parents Thilda Touchet LaPointe and Joseph Meonce LaPointe Sr., his daughter Diana L. LaPointe, his grandson Scott A. LaPointe, two brothers; Paul LaPointe and Meonce LaPointe, three sisters; Euphemie Gautreaux, Marie LaPointe and Paula LaPointe, and by his half sister Willie Mae Montague.
A military graveside service will be conducted by the East Saint Mary Veterans Funeral Squad Friday, November 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Patterson.
