Neil Conrad Landers Sr. September 16, 1932 October 10, 2012 Neil Conrad Landers Sr. 80, a native of Beverly, MA, long-time resident of Henderson, KY, and a current resident of Morgan City, LA passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at home surrounded by caring family. Neil was a flight mechanic on the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Korean War. After the war he continued to contribute to his country as an engineer for AVCO and Lockheed by designing parts for the Apollo Missions as well as for one of the largest cargo jets, the U.S. Air Force C-5A. Neil was also instrumental in designing the housing for one of the first wireless telephones produced by GTE. In later years, Neil worked as an engineer for the automotive industry retiring from Thomas & Betts in 1997. Closer to home, Neil designed the commemorative medallions for the U.S. Navy Swath T-AGO series surveillance ships built in Amelia, LA by McDermott Shipyards. Neil was a well-known numismatist collecting early American coins dating from the time of the first colonies. He was also a descendant of several early American families including three Mayflower pilgrims and his family resided in the Plymouth, MA area for 10 generations. Neil was a 3rd Degree Mason and a member of the American Legion. Out of all of Neil’s accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather; he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Neil is survived by two sons: Neil Landers Jr. and wife, Dena of Morgan City and Joseph Willmann and wife, Elaine of Allen, TX; three daughters: Cindy Landers of Houston, Ivey Compall and husband, Thad of Des Plaines, IL and Laurie King and husband, Sam of Austin, TX; eleven grandchildren: Michael, Natashia, Thad, Kate, Ben, Jason, Christy, Patrick, Melissa, Lee and Jason; seven great-grandchildren: Brayden, Baylee, Violet Roux, Julian, Dakota, James and Gavin; two sisters-n-law: Nancy Landers of New Hampshire and Ida Pack of Alabama along with a host of nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joe Anne Pack Landers; parents, Arthur James Landers Sr. and Ivy Conrad Landers; one son, Kevin Michael Landers; one brother, Arthur James Landers Jr. and one sister, Winifred MacIsaac. Neil will be buried with his loving wife of 40 years, Joe Anne, in Centreville, MS at a later date which will be determined by the family. Donations may be made in Neil’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
