Cecil Hardee

Cecil Marvin Hardee Sr., 93, a resident of Morgan City and a native of Fernandina Beach, Fl., passed away, Sunday, December 30, 2007. Marvin was born and raised in Fernandina Beach, Fla., where members of his high school football team gave him the nickname “Flea”. Marvin joined three older brothers in the emerging shrimp business during the 1930’s and following the shrimp from St. Augustine, Fla., he moved to Morgan City in 1941. After his brothers moved to Brownsville, Texas, he remained in Morgan City to run the business here. Marvin owned a fleet of shrimp boats and became partners in Sea Shrimp Company in Patterson in 1958. He became the sole owner after his partner retired in the late 60’s and continued in the business until the late 80’s. Marvin loved to hunt, but after his brothers took the bird dogs with them to Texas, Marvin became an avid golfer. Marvin was a charter member of St. Mary Golf & Country Club. He won numerous trophies and was extremely proud of his four holes-in-one. He was a member of Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church. Marvin is survived by his wife of 73 loving years, Edna ”Virginia” Boothe Hardee of Morgan City; three sons, Marvin Hardee Jr. and his wife Maria Davis Hardee of Dallas, TX., Richard (Jiggie) Hardee and his wife Ila Robicheaux Hardee of Morgan City, Conley Hardee and his wife Ruthie Aucoin Hardee of Plano , TX.; two daughters, Dana Hardee Bruni and her husband Joe Jr. of Bayou Vista, Elna Hardee Jones and her husband Thomas of Dallas TX.; two sisters, Elizabeth Steele of Belmont, NC., Carol Anderson of Fernandina Beach, Fl.; fourteen grandchildren, Kevin Hardee, Kern Hardee, Dene’e Bruni Rosasco, Joey Bruni, Rhonda Bruni Guillory, Shannon Bruni, Hal Bruni, Towney Hardee, Benny Hardee, Deanie Jones Soignier, Elna Jones Boudreaux, David Hardee, Eric Hardee and Jayme Hardee Hawthorne, 29 great-grand children and 6 great-great-grand children. Marvin was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kara Hardee Coup, one great-grandson, Jacob Keith Bruni, his parents John Ella Davis Hardee, four brothers, John, Noble, Lewis and Howard Hardee, two sisters, Mollie Thompson and Content Davis. Pallbearers are Joey Bruni, Hal Bruni, Dennis Soegnier, Randy Landry, Brock Landry and Conley Hardee. Honorary pallbearers were Grant Patton and Jimmy Manuel. With love and appreciation, the family would like to thank Hospice, Grace Gutherie, Elinor Lee and all of the special people at Patterson Health Care, and Mary Crosby for their care and devotion. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Twin City Funeral Home from 11am until 12 noon. Funeral services will be held at Twin City Funeral Home at 12 noon with Rev. Lamar Oliver, pastor of Pharr Chapel, conducting the service. Marvin will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be sent to Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City.
