James Burchman Broussard died on Monday March 31, 2008 at the age of 72. He was a native of Lafayette and resident of Morgan City since 1959.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia (Tookie) Dore. His children include three sons, Jud Broussard and his wife Lisa of Carencro, Brian and his wife Jackie of McKinney, Texas, Chris and his wife Terri of Houston, Texas and one daughter Sylvia and her husband Gene White of Las Vegas, Nevada, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and one sister and four brothers, Becky, Jerry, Martial, Kenny, Bert.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Tidewater Marine, Hudson Drydock and has been in the marine industry for the past 23years. Twelve of those years, Jimmy Broussard was involved in international sales in West Africa, North Africa, France, Italy, Europe and South America. He served as chairman of the board of the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum festival from 1995-2000 and also represented the festival as its King in the year 2000. Jimmy was also a past member of the advisory board of the Atchafalaya API, past board member of the St, Mary Industrial Group and past chairman of Teche Regional Medical Center Board of Commissions. He was also a past King of the Krewe of Galatea in 1993. In his spare time, Jimmy enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and helping his friends.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Broussard, Brent Broussard, Brett Broussard, Jamie Broussard, Mathew Broussard, Archie Dore, Gene White and Pete Covington. Honorary pallbears are Dr. Robert Blereau, Dr. Melvin Bourgeois, Wendall Huddleston, Frank Cali, Jack Patin, Earl Comeaux and Murray Boudreaux.
Visitation will be observed from 6pm-9pm at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City with a rosary prayed at 7pm on Tuesday April 1st and 9am-11am on Wednesday April 2nd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with mass to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Bayou Region Hospice Houma, Louisiana or MD Anderson Cancer Medical Center Houston, Texas.
