Thomas DeVance "Boogie" Hamilton, 87, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013, at Teche Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Boogie was born on August 14, 1925, in Morgan City, the son of Joseph DeVance and Nellie Sessions Hamilton. He earned an advanced degree in pharmacy from Loyola University in 1963, and he owned and operated his family business, Standard Drug Store. He was a longtime devoted member of Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the St. Mary Parish School Board for twenty-eight years, serving several terms as president.
He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Lena Accardo Hamilton of Morgan City, and by:
Three children: Dr. Joseph DeVance Hamilton II and wife Sandra of Houston, Texas; Kathleen Hamilton Cox of Baton Rouge; and Mary Ellen Hamilton Blum and husband Carl of Morgan City.
Seven grandchildren: Jason Flowers, Jonathan Blum, Lauren Blum Robison and husband Dane, Emil Blumenaus, Jillian Hamilton, Allyson Cox Darbonne and husband David, and Amanda Cox Briscoe and husband Chad.
Fourteen great-grandchildren: Adrienne, Madalyn, Clare, Sarah, Isaiah, Matthias, and Mary Frances Darbonne; Dominic, Noah, Matthew, and Anna Clare Briscoe; Emmy and Ella Robison; and Brady Rawlinson.
Boogie was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Thompson; and his brother, James Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. John Locascio officiating. Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service on Wednesday at the church, followed by a graveside service at the Morgan City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Flowers, Jonathan Blum, Dane Robison, Chad Briscoe, Chris Accardo, Glenn Accardo, Tommy Accardo, and Andre Chauvin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Blereau, Dr. Glenn Whitley, Pat Accardo, Gene Dreher, and Terry Blanchard.
The family expresses its deep appreciation for the exceptional care given by Dr. Robert Blereau, Dr. Darrell Solet, Dr. James Runnels, and the outstanding nursing staff of Teche Regional Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church, 517 Federal Avenue, Morgan City, Louisiana 70380.
