George Anthony Williams, Jr. a native of Bateman Island and resident of Morgan City passed away peacefully on May 7, 2008 at New Iberia Medical Center. He was 84 years old. George was born June 21st, 1923. He was the son of George A. Williams, Sr. and Myrtle Bernucho Williams. He married Rose Ann Stansbury November 19, 1949 and together they had four children.
George was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a tugboat Captain by trade until he retired in 1973. His love for gardening was obvious to all as he held numerous “Garden of the Month” titles. He was a lover of fishing and hunting, always buying a new lure for his trips and a new gun just to have one. He was a great carpenter and could fix just about anything. Mostly he was a great husband, father and grandfather who loved his wife, children and grandchildren with all of his heart and soul. George was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr, and Myrtle Williams; a brother, Stanley Williams; and two sisters, Mildred Siler and Clara Manning.
He is loved and survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose Ann Stansbury Williams; a son George A. (“Skipper”) Williams III and wife Sylvia Schaub Williams; three daughters, Tana Allain and husband Steve Allain of Gonzales, La.; Sandra Cazale´ and husband Dr. John Cazale of River Ridge, La.; Lisa Deuel and husband USCG LCDR David Deuel of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren, U.S. Army Major Cory Williams and wife Stacy; Jenny Williams; Lauren Bailey and husband Jason; Kristi, Jodi and Teri Allain; Chelsea and Zoe Deuel; eight great-grandchildren, David and Charlie Williams; Drake and Drew Angeron; Hannah, Luke and Kate Bailey; and Dayton Allain. He is also survived by a sister, Myrtle Jesclaud of Harahan, La. and a brother Eldridge (“Tot”) Williams of Morgan City.
Visitation will be held Saturday at Twin City Funeral Home, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.
