Avery DeHart , a native of Bayou Chene and a resident of Bayou Vista passed away Friday May 16,2008 at Teche Regional Medical Center, at the age of 88.
Avery was a newly baptised Catholic and a member of St Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista.
Of all the loves that he had in his life, Avery loved most , his wife, children, grandchildren , great grand children, and his entire family.
Avery enjoyed working on boats in his early workdays but more recently, he was a pest control technician with Rudy’s Pest Control.
Cooking was one of the first things that he learned as a young man while working on boats. Fishing, hunting, and trapping were some of the things that he loved to do as a youth. Avery always had a great sense of humor as well as being a great handyman. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with family and friends. Avery proudly served his country in WW11 and was proud to be a member of the American Legion.
Avery is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vera Mae Rink DeHart, two sons, Malcom DeHart and his wife Guilia of Bayou Vista, Wayne DeHart and his wife Regina of Bayou Vista, two daughters, Pat and her husband Linwood Estilette of New Iberia, and Phyllis and her husband Fred Romero of New Iberia. He is also survived by three bothers, Alvy DeHart and his wife Ena of Bayou Vista, Rogers DeHart of Berwick, and Rudolph DeHart and his wife Jeanette of Bayou Vista.
Avery is also survived by nine grandchildren, Charman Estilette, Donna Stutes, Todd Romero, Kevin Mark Romero, Angela Blanchard, Amy Vicknair, David DeHart, Shawn DeHart, and Tim DeHart.
Avery was predeceased by his father and mother, Malcom and Laura Eve Aucoin DeHart, one sister, Lorenza D Moore, and two brothers Algie and Evans DeHart, and a grandson, Michele DeHart.
Visitation was held from 6 P M until 9 P M on Sunday May 18, 2008, and again this morning from 9 A M until 10:30 A M.. A Mass of Christian burial was conducted at St. Bernadette Catholic Church by Fr. Vu, at 11:00 A M. on Monday May 19, 2008.
Military graveside service was conducted by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
Avery was laid to rest in the Berwick mausoleum.
