B. Lawrence Vining

April 11, 1928 — November 20, 2013

Beverly Lawrence Vining, 85, a native of Berwick and a resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was a well-respected member of the community and a wonderful husband and father. Lawrence served three years in the National Guard and four years in the United States Air Force, where he was trained in auto body repair. He returned to Morgan City and eventually opened his own business, which he operated as Vining’s Body Shop, for thirty years. During his life, he was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Civitan Club. When his children were in school, Lawrence was a loyal supporter of activities at Holy Cross and Central Catholic High Schools, and he was proud to serve as a Scout Master of Troop 330. He was also a Lake End Park board member. Lawrence is survived by his lovely wife of nearly 60 years, Ruby D. Vining; three children, Susan V. Dupre and husband Keith of Morgan City, Bryan L. Vining and wife Dallas of Woodworth, and Lori V. McCarthy and husband William “Billy” of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Andrea D. Leonard and husband Jason, Celeste D. Benoit and husband Jerry, Caitlyn Vining, Dayton Thrash, Brylee Vining, Sophia McCarthy, and Graham McCarthy; three great-grandchildren, Mara Leonard, Clementine Leonard, and Alexander Benoit; one brother, Julius Vining; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell O. Vining and Clara Clark Vining; three brothers, M. C. Vining, Clarence Vining, and Norman Vining; and three sisters, Mildred V. Davis, Vera V. Morgan, and Katherine V. Barras. The family offers special thanks for the care and compassion of Dr. Robert Blereau, the 6th floor staff of Teche Regional Medical Center, and Journey Hospice. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Lawrence will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery Mausoleum.
