Clara Belle Simoneaux, 87, a resident of Morgan City and a native of Lockport, LA passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Belle enjoyed gardening and was awarded the “Garden of the Month” several times. Belle also loved cooking, music and dancing, traveling and hosted many family gatherings. Belle was a member of the AARP and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Belle was the manager of Sacred Heart Thrift Store and during WWII Belle was a streetcar driver in New Orleans. Above all, Belle loved her family and she spoiled them all. Belle was a good wife, mother and grandmother, and a friend to all.
Belle is survived by her husband, Lester Simoneaux of Morgan City, one son, Bill Duet and his wife Joyce of Ozark, MO, two daughters: Geraldine Barrow of Lafayette, Connie Simoneaux of Morgan City, one brother, John Plaisance of Bush, LA. Belle is also survived by eight grandchildren: Terri Dugas Rhodes, Kent Barrow, Tad Duet, Kim Duet Pruitt, David Duet, Jared Alcina, Michelle Duet Crull and Joshua Alcina, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Belle was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Virginia Plaisance, one sister, Earline Plaisance Arceneaux, two brothers Dudley and Early Plaisance, one grandson, Dale Barrow.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Twin City Funeral Home from 6pm until 9pm. With a rosary at 7pm. The visitation will resume at Twin City Funeral Home, Monday, June 23, 2008 from 9am until 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11am. Belle will be laid to rest in Morgan City Mausoleum.
