Herman Joseph Richard Sr., 83, a native of Morgan City and a resident of Bayou Vista passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Franklin Retirement Home.
Herman spent his life on the water whether it was for work as a boat captain or for just fishing for fun. He was a wonderful and hard working father that taught his children the value of working hard and never settling for second best. Herman loved his family tremendously along with his dog, Dash who brought joy to his life. Herman also was a Korean War Veteran who served his country proudly in the United State Army.
Herman left behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 55 years, Mary B. Richard of Bayou Vista; two daughters: Hattie R. Lawton of Bayou Vista and Melanie Dietz and husband, Ricky of Lake Arthur; three sons: Herman J. Richard Jr. and wife, Donna of Bayou Vista, David Richard and wife, Robin of Bayou Vista and Chief James Richard and wife, Nickie Aucoin of Berwick; 13 grandchildren: Lauren, Joshua, Matthew, Brandon, Elizabeth, Amanda, Brittany, Meagan, Allison, Steve, Trevor, Marissa and Jayden along with three great grandchildren: Finn, Thomas and Emma. The family would like to mention that Herman is also survived by a very special cousin and close friend, Harold Jones who was like a brother to Herman. They shared many fond memories together.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Theophile and Hattie D. Richard and five brothers: Felix "Lee", Johnny "June", Joseph "Joe", Augustan "Bud" and Herbert Richard.
Pallbearers: Herman Richard Jr., David Richard, Ricky Dietz, Joshua Richard, Matthew Lawton, Brandon Richard and Harold Jones as honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Twin City Funeral Home beginning at 6pm until 9pm and resume at the funeral home on Monday, January 20, 2014 starting at 9am until time of service at 11am. Herman will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery with full military honors provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
