Melvin Eugene Arceneaux, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 30, 2014.Melvin loved his county and served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Leyte in the Philippines. He served from May 25, 1943 to March 12, 1946.When he returned home to his wife and his five month old daughter, Lana he and his father Andrew started working as carpenters. Working on numerous homes and building in Morgan City. Together they built the home that he, his wife, Evanna and five children would call home. He worked tirelessly sometimes working two-three jobs to provide for his family.Melvin was a quite a gentleman with a big heart. He loved his Lord and his country. His family was everything to him. Experiencing the loss of his daughter Janis in 1965 at the young age of 9 was devastating. His faith in God got him through this loss.Melvin is survived by four children, Lana Domino (Don) of Morgan City, Michael Arceneaux (Bunnie) of Baton Rouge, Larry Arceneaux (Janet) of La Belle, Florida, Mark Arceneaux (Donna) of Morgan City. His is also survived by eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Delores "Doty" Hardcastle of Ashburn, Virginia; two nieces, Debbie Hardcastle Joder of Reston, Virginia and Vicki Hardcastle of Boonville, Missouri.He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Arceneaux and Angelina White Areceneaux; one daughter, Janis Arceneaux; wife of 59 years, Evanna Wooters Arceneaux; brother, Lester Arceneaux; one great grandson Christian Arceneaux. He will forever be in our hearts. We believe he is now at peace with God. Until we meet again Dad, we love you. Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. There will be a rosary at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Melvin will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery following Mass.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
