Art “Hardtimes” Lloyd Graves, passed Sunday morning at Teche Regional Medical Center. He was a young 61 years of age at his passing. Born and raised in Ohio, he was the oldest of 6 children. As a young teen to make money he rode a Ice-cream bike, as a young adult he worked in construction and as a mechanic. He married his 1st wife before enlisting in the United States army at 17years of age. He served two tours of duty, the 1st in Korea and the 2nd in Vietnam War from 1967-1975. He also became a proud papa to his two eldest daughters Rena and Micky Graves. After the military he returned to Ohio and divorced and remarried 2 more times and had two sons, Arthur Lloyd Graves II with his 2nd wife and Arthur Adam Graves with his 3rd wife. He stayed in Ohio for a period of time and then headed south and landed in Louisiana and has been here ever since. He went to work on the boats and discovered a new love, “The Gulf Coast”. He work on the boats and met his 4th wife and adopted her son Corey Watts Graves and had his two youngest children, Shelby C. Graves and Alva L. Graves. He retired in the late 90’s as a Boat Captain. He loved to take the kids fishing and traveling. He was an avid reader, and before his passing he was working on the family tree. Art was a loving and devoted Husband, father and friend, he will be missed dearly by all that truly knew him. We can only hope that “Hardtimes” just got easier.
He is survived by his daughters, Rena Reed of Ohio, Shelby C. Graves of La, sons, Corey Watts Graves and Alva Lloyd Graves also of La., one brother, Earl Brown of Ohio, one sister, Julia Fraley of Patterson.. Art is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws and of course friends.
Art was proceded in death by his parents, Alva Lloyd Graves and Betty Louise Brown, three brothers, Leora Graves, Elmer Graves, Jackie Brown, two sons, Arthur Lloyd Graves II, Arthur Adam Graves, one daughter, Klaudette Michelle Graves and his 4th wife and mother of his 2 youngest children, Patye G. Faulk.
A memorial will be held Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Twin City Funeral Home at 2pm. The East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad will conduct Military Honors.
