Michael McGrath

Michael Thomas McGrath was called home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at his home in Bayou Vista on Saturday evening. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Michael was preceded in death by both his parents, Wilfred Michael McGrath and Doris Checigan McGrath, his sister Sharon McGrath, Mother-in-law, Zoila Sophie Long, and Nephew Brandon Alexander Boudoin. He is survived by this wife Helen Ann McGrath, sisters Diane McGrath, Dale & Pam (McGrath) Wild, Dave & Cathy (McGrath) Roy, Mark & PJ (McGrath) Richardson and brother Patrick McGrath. He is also survived by his in-laws, Wanda Boudoin and Kelly Kennedy and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews including Chrissy, Robert, and Shawn McGrath and Brooke Noel Boudoin. Michael was a strong-willed man who lived his life on his terms. He wasn’t shy about speaking his peace and savored a good debate. He enjoyed his full life and left this world with very few regrets. He did not believe in waiting for tomorrow. He was talented in many areas including mechanics, construction, plumbing, and painting. He worked in a variety of fields throughout his life including Bollinger, Danos, and McDermott. He supervised and taught many up and coming painters the intricacies of his art. He was a hunter, fisherman, car guy, avid gardener and wildlife watcher—especially hummingbirds. He was always amazed at their delicate tenacity. As per his wishes, he did not wish a traditional wake or funeral. He said there has been enough pain and sadness. He made his peace with God (yes, God) and lived on Faith when nearing this ending. For those who knew and enjoyed him, he said, “Lift a glass for me and toast to our lives. Thank you for being a part of mine.” For those who were not in that circle, he said, “Forget the negative, it just weighs you down, reach your potential, and truly love the ones you choose to love. Peace.” Twin City Funeral Homes in Morgan City will handle arrangements and Michael will be laid to rest in the Morgan City cemetery with family in a private service. We wish to thank everyone for the wonderful calls, notes of support, hugs, and support given to us during this time. We also wish to thank every single person involved in Michael’s medical teams.
