George J. Blanchard Sr., 83, a lifelong resident of Morgan City passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Morgan City Healthcare Center, once again reuniting with the love of his life, his wife, whom he tirelessly took care of for over 10 years while she suffered from Alzheimer's.
George sometimes better known as "Mr. Phillip Morris" worked for Phillip Morris Furniture for over 25 years, afterwards he worked for Shannon Hardware for the next 15 plus years. He was a very dedicated and hard working husband, father, and grandfather. George was a devoted family man spending endless time with his grandchildren. He love to pass a good time with his friends and could regale anyone with stories from his past. George also enjoyed a good game of golf from time to time. George's son, "Little George", who he affectionately referred to, was his pride and joy. The family would like to acknowledge George's cousin, Ms. Diana Cortez Aleman and her daughter, Susie Billiot for being such wonderful family, helping take care of George and looking in on him on a regular basis. They were such a blessing to have around. The family would also like to thank all the staff at Morgan City Healthcare Center and Journey Hospice for the concern and care they provided.
George is survived by his son, George Blanchard and his wife, Sheila of Bayou Vista; four grandchildren: Brittany Price, Brennan Blanchard, Brooke and Bethany Blanchard; two great grandchildren: Carsyn and Maverick Blanchard.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Evella Blanchard; parents, George A. and Eunice Blanchard along with one son, George J. Blanchard Jr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Twin City Funeral Home beginning at 5pm until 9pm and will resume at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 8am until 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will start at 10am at Sacred Heath Catholic Church and George will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Mausoleum following the mass. He will be laid to rest with military honors provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
