Cecil Ugas, 83, a resident of Patterson, a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at his residence.
Cecil Ugas has been a fish spotter for Omega Protein in Moss point for 52 years. Cecil flies a Cessna aircraft over the Mississippi Sound spot menhaden, or pogey, schools and relays the schools' locations to fishing boats. Cecil started flying when he was 15 and paid for his lessons with a paper route and by cutting grass. "That's all I wanted to do, fly," Cecil said. He says at age 76, he still gets excited when he flies. "As soon as I sit down in the plane, the adrenaline starts to flow," he said. Cecil said fish-spotting job is a challenge. "I love what I'm doing," he said. Cecil was born and raised in Pascagoula.
He will be sadly missed and loving remembered by his wife Rose Ugas and one brother; Pete Ugas and wife Gloria.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents Henry Ugas and Nellie Ugas.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
