William “Bill” Grove McCracken, 73, a resident of Morgan City and a native of Cambridge, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Teche Regional Medical Center. Bill loved to spoil his wife, children and grandchildren, he never met a strange and always helped family and friends. Bill enjoyed sports, especially basketball and football, traveling, cooking and reading. Bill also built computers and was very good at using them. Bill was graduate of Marietta College and was a member of the AARP.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Delores Palmer McCracken of Morgan City, four sons; William G. McCracken Jr. and his wife Sherry of Sardis, Ohio, Bradley J. McCracken and his wife Anna of Lake Charles, Scott H. McCracken of Byesville, Ohio, Geoffrey R. McCracken and his wife Shanna of Liberty, TX, one daughter, Jennifer M. Goulder and her husband Don of Dayton, TX, and one sister, Charlotte Bell of Kenton, Ohio. Bill is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Lilan McCracken Gibson, Elise Goulder, Ryan, Jarod, Nakkia, Erin, Brianne, Benjamin, Nicholas, Matthew, Jessica, Scott, Patrick, William and Mitchell McCracken and several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. His mother-in-law, Mary Colbert of Zanesville, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Ray and Isobell Grove McCracken, three sisters, Alice Kinard, Margot Thompson, Mary Isobell “Ebo” Denny, two grandchildren, Natalie McCracken and Angela McCracken.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Bethel Pentecostal Church in Patterson from 6pm until 9pm, resuming Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 9am until 11am. The funeral service will commence at 11am. Bill will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
