Rowena Fusilier LaFleur, 83, a resident of Morgan City, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at her home.
Rowena was born on February 18, 1932 in Ville Platte to Oscar and Atile LaFleur Fusilier. On August 19, 1950 she married her first and only boyfriend, Cedric LaFleur.
Rowena, affectionately known as Momee and Roe to many, graduated from Sacred Heart School in Ville Platte in 1948. She was also a graduate of Spencer Business College in Lafayette. Along with her husband, she co-founded LaFleur Dairy Products in 1954 until their retirement in 2006. She was the First Lady of Morgan City for 10 years, standing by her husband's side as he served as Mayor of Morgan City from 1983 until 1993. Rowena was a very spiritual woman and served as a spiritual mother to many. Rowena was the head of the Women's Aglow serving as the first president in the area. She loved to teach bible study classes and also loved to sew as she was an exceptional seamstress. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in French. Rowena was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church choir for many years. Rowena had a love for all children, but especially loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great -great grandchildren. She loved to give kisses and would give kisses to anyone she could.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years Cedric LaFleur of Morgan City; five daughters, Jolene LaFleur Holt and husband Jamie, Peggy LaFleur, Debby LaFleur Acosta, Monica LaFleur Acosta and husband David Sr., Patience LaFleur Bryant and companion Cindy Kraft all of Morgan City; 14 grandchildren, Angel Case, Michael Baker Jr., Scott Blanco, Amanda Smith, Dawn Sharp, Maurita Morell, Jeremy Leftwich, Rachel Blanco, Sarah Theriot, Alaina Black, Katie Rock, Laura Leftwich, Jay Bryant, and Peyton Acosta; Step-grandchildren, David Acosta, Jr., Shelly Acosta, Jordan Acosta, Gerry Holt, and Tomy Holt; 34 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Rowena was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Stephen LaFleur; two son-in-laws, Gary J. Acosta and Anthony Blanco; 13 siblings; mother and father-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Simon LaFleur.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Central Catholic High School or Holy Cross Elementary in Ms. Rowena's name.
