Huey Anthony Breaux

November 27, 1927 — February 12, 2016

Huey Anthony Breaux, 88, a resident of Berwick, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Patterson Healthcare Center. He was born on November 27, 1927 in Gibson, the son of Albert and Mary L. Breaux. Huey was a loving husband, father and friend. He liked camping with his family, traveling, and planting flowers, especially rose bushes. He was very crafty, and built ornate furniture pieces. As a young man, he excelled in athletics, leading him to be the first recipient of the BB Brooks Award for his achievements in football and basketball while at Morgan City High School. The song "Hold that Tiger" was written by the Morgan City High band director for the team he played for, which was later adopted by LSU. Huey led an eventful and loving life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Gerrie Broussard Breaux; three sons, Reed Breaux and wife Wendy of Seabrook, Tx, Rick Breaux and wife Nancy of Kemah, Tx, Ray Breaux of New Iberia; two daughters, Carla Breaux Venissat of Lake Charles, Cindy Breaux of New Iberia; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Huey is preceded in death by parents, Albert Breaux and Mary LaGrange Breaux; brothers, Russell Breaux, Kearney Breaux, Eugene Breaux; sisters, Detta Thompson, and Shirley Cannciene. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Twin City Funeral Home from 9:00am until service time. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00am at Twin City Funeral Home. Huey will be laid to rest in Berwick Cemetery following services with military honors given by East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for the headstone engraving of the Naval Ship, USS Southerland, on which Huey served.
