Elmer Afton Hicks, 80, a resident of Berwick, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on January 14, 1936 in Altha, Florida the son of Randal Pope Hicks and Alice Estelle Lamb Hicks.
Elmer was a shrimper for 42 years and during his shrimping career captained the Pat & Joe, The Flea, The Francille and the Miss Sena. He was a jack of all trades when it came to his vessels as if there was any work needed to be done, he always did it himself as he was a very independent and prideful person. From welding to being a diesel mechanic, to making his own nets, Elmer did it all. He had a passion for singing and loved to sing Karaoke every Thursday and Sunday. He loved to sit and relax and watch his westerns and football on TV. Elmer loved spending time with his family as his family was his whole world. His children never had to want for anything in their lives because they knew that Daddy was always going to take care of them.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Elvira Vonheuvel Hicks of Berwick; six daughters, Carmen Annette Crochet of Bayou Vista, Alice Marie Wagner of Roseville Mich., Cynthia Elmaline Hicks of Osceola, Fl., Virginia Ann LeBlanc of Stephensville, Sena Loraine Latiolais of Church Point, Mattie Landry of Morgan City; 18 grandchildren, Tobey, Cassie, Patricia, Mark, Karessa, Ariele, Emily, Taylor, Faith , Justin, Andrew, Destiny, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Gwen, Maggie, Alexandria, McKenzie; 14 great grandchildren, Adon, Ella, Justin, Dewayne, Abigail, Hunter, Patrick, Bailey, Afton, Lucas, Raylie, Delana, Gabriel, Haydon, Jasmine, Erik.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Randal Pope Hicks and Alice Estelle Lamb Hicks; eight siblings; Baby Tajj.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Twin City Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Elmer will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery Mausoleum on Saturday, April 2, 2016.
