Jerry DeHart

August 4, 1929 — May 7, 2009

He was a member of Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church where he raised his children in the Methodist Faith and he knew JESUS CHRIST as his SAVIOR. He came into the world as Elridge and Sarah Elizabeth Adams DeHart’s son. A resident of Morgan City and a native of Bayou Dularge, he died at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends. Visitation today, Friday, May 8, 2009, was at Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City, where funeral services also were held this morning. Interment followed in the Morgan City Cemetery. Jerry DeHart leaves behind his most cherished possession: his family. His devoted second wife of 22 years, Jennifer Ann Becnel Adams DeHart of Vacherie; his three sons, Michael Gerald (Lydia) DeHart of Lafayette, Thomas Wayne (Shirley) DeHart of Belle River, and Terry David (Carolyn Clements) DeHart of Thibodaux; his only daughter that Jerry and Gladys DeHart adopted and loved and raised as their own, Barbara Gale DeHart (Anthony Sr.) Freia of Morgan City; and his nephew, Pat DeHart of Morgan City, whom he always thought of as his son. Jerry also is survived by his stepchildren, Janna Marie Adams (Maurice) Scioneaux of Vacherie, Danielle Marie Adams (Brian) Mire of Morgan City, and Christopher Joseph (Becky) Adams of Stephensville; his brother, Minous (Kaye) DeHart of Morgan City; his sister, Marian DeHart Fabre of Morgan City; and his sister-in-law, Mearl S. Galloway. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Shawncy Lynn (Jamie) Ponville of Pierre Part, Brian Earl (Kourtney Conners) DeHart of Lafayette, Jamie Charmaine (Ronnie Verdon) DeHart of Patterson, Stacy Marie DeHart of Belle River, Elizabeth Mercedes (Jeremy Olivier) Izaguirre of Morgan City, Javin Anthony (Kim) DeHart Sr. of New Iberia, Stephanie Ann (Aaron Wiggins) Izaguirre of Morgan City and Austin Joseph Adams of Stephensville; adopted grandson, Quinn Michael DeHart of Bayou Vista; his step-grandchildren, Adam Wayne (Nikki) Boyd of Lafayette, Joshua Benjamin Adams of Berwick, Elisabeth Ann Scioneaux (Raymond) Pesson III of Boston, Denise Marie Scioneaux and Micheal Joseph Scioneaux of Vacherie. Jerry also is survived by his great-grandchildren, Bailey Michael DeHart, Madison and Mason Boyd of Lafayette, Brey Nicholas Adams, Evyn Blake Adams, Adlely Grace Ponville and Jami Lyn Ponville of Pierre Part, Kylie Rae DeHart and Kolbie Renee Daigle of Belle River, Brianna Rose Burbante, Aden Paul Wiggins of Morgan City, Kamryn Allesse Olivier and Kowen Joseph Olivier of Morgan City, Ramie Bourgeois, Sahra DeHart and Javin Anthony DeHart Jr. of New Iberia, and Bradley Christopher Adams of Berwick; and his pets, Shorty and Bambi. He had two godchildren, Belinda Anita Fabre Lee of Bayou L’Ourse and Belinda Kramer Marshall; and an endless list of those who knew and loved him. Jerry will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving first wife of 36 years, Gladys Ann Campbell DeHart of Morgan City, the daughter of the late Earl Joseph Campbell and Sadie Agnes Williams Campbell of Stephensville; his parents, Elridge and Sarah Elizabeth Adams DeHart, were born in Theriot, but were residents of Morgan City; two brothers, Elton DeHart and Little David DeHart of Morgan City; a brother-in-law, Alden Fabre of Morgan City, and the parents of Jennifer - GloveLance Joseph Becnel Sr. and Irene Marie Folse Becnel of Vacherie. Pallbearers were Mike DeHart, Terry DeHart, Pat DeHart, Quinn DeHart, Anthony Freia Sr. and Anthony Mula. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy DeHart, Chris Adams, Brian Mire, Brian DeHart, Javin Anthony DeHart Sr., Calvin Ratcliff and Minous DeHart.
