Shirley Breaux

Shirley Hebert Breaux, 86, born in Berwick and a life-long resident of Morgan City, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City after a brief illness. Mrs. Breaux was an actively involved member of the Morgan City community for many decades. A recipient of a B.S. from Loyola’s School of Pharmacy in 1943, Mrs. Breaux also had the distinction of being a charter member of Morgan City’s Krewe of Galatea, the area’s first ladies Mardi Gras organization, was a long-time active member of the then-Lakewood Hospital Ladies Auxiliary in which she held a number of offices, was a tireless worker for the Morgan City Community Concert series, and a long-time member of the local Catholic Daughters in which she held numerous positions. She was also involved for some time in the area’s business community, having been a co-owner and operator of the Golden Thimble Needle Workshop in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Mrs. Breaux is survived by her nine children, Stephen Breaux and his wife, Sharon Colton Breaux, Claire Kendrick, Dale Breaux and his wife, Sherry Jones Breaux, Gail Breaux, Aline Breaux, Mary Lynn Dahnke and her husband, Michael, Judy Owens and her husband, Joe, Adriene Ratcliff and her husband, J.C., and Edna Quirk and her husband, Tim. In addition, Mrs. Breaux is also survived by her grandchildren, Leslie Breaux Moore, Jacob Breaux, James Kendrick, Katherine Kendrick, Dawn Breaux Schwartz, Stacy Breaux Brown, Nicholas Breaux, Erin Breaux Falgout, Camille Breaux Brennan, Justin Owens, Caroline Owens, Kristin Ratcliff, Seth Ratcliff, Brittany Quirk and Timothy Quirk. Great-grandchildren surviving Mrs. Breaux include Alexandra Breaux, Cameron Breaux, Hadley Moore, Gracie Moore, Andrew Kendrick, Abigail Kendrick and Allison Kendrick. In addition, Mrs. Breaux is survived by one sister, JoAnn Hebert Butler, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Breaux was preceded in death by her husband, Norman H. Breaux Sr.; her son, Norman H. Breaux Jr.; her sister and brother-in-law, Guy Hebert Granger and Louis J. Granger; and her parents, Jacob J. “Jake” Hebert and Agnes Prestenbach Hebert. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and resumes at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City. Mrs. Breaux will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Eternal Word Television Network in Irondale, Ala.
