Joyce Marie Hernandez Melancon, 96, a resident of Morgan City, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Joyce was born on January 26, 1920 in Donaldsonville, the daughter of Camille S. Hernandez and Mary Ramirez Hernandez.
Joyce was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Ladies Altar Society and the Samaritan's Bereavement Group.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by four children, Karen Loupe and husband Donald of Morgan City, Lauren Arcemont of Morgan City, Paula Goulas of Bayou Vista, Kevin Melancon and wife Noel Steffes of Baton Rouge; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Chiasson and husband Mitch, Gina Dupuis and husband Mike, Maria Barbier and husband Dwayne, Don Loupe and wife Catherine, Christina Prather and husband Eric, David C. Arcemont and wife Andree, Mark Arcemont and Trey Hammett, Kelli Zerangue and husband Scottie, Chad Goulas and wife Rebekah, Kristen Miller and husband Chad, Brian Melancon; 25 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Camille S. Hernandez and Mary Ramirez Hernandez; husband, George Melancon; four brothers; two sons-in-law, David Arcemont and Dannie Goulas.
The family would like to thank the staff of Journey Hospice as well as Divinity Home Health for the care that they gave Ms. Joyce.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Wilfredo Decal officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass and after Mass Joyce will be laid to rest in the Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Donaldsonville.
