Gerald "Jerry" Joseph Harvey

June 6, 1936 — October 9, 2016

Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Harvey, age 80, of Morgan City, passed away on October 9, 2016. Jerry was born on June 6, 1936, in Morgan City. He served a short time in the National Guard before starting his career as an outboard mechanic. As owner of Stern Drive Service, he would go out of his way to help others with mechanical problems. Jerry was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix just about anything. He put his all into everything he did and was always there to help his family and friends. Jerry was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was always willing to take others fishing, and he got pleasure from watching the joy others had when catching fish. Jerry turned his life over to Jesus Christ later in life, and he became a new man with a new heart. He was an active and dedicated member of Word of Life Family Church. His life was devoted to serving God with unconditional love. Before his stroke in 1997, he would spend countless hours studying God's Word, as well as, volunteering with the construction of the current church building. Jerry was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love. He was not afraid to share God's Word with anyone that he came in contact with. He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend a person could ever hope to have in their life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Louise Kober Harvey; their two daughters, Peggy Leonard and Barbara Harvey; one son, Paul Harvey and wife Audrey; his five grandchildren: Christina Leonard, Christopher Leonard, Tracy Harvey, Michael Harvey and wife Jenny, Jeffery Harvey and wife Moneice; his four great-grandchildren: Trysten, Gregory, Abby, and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Terrebonne and step-father, Andrew Terrebonne. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Twin City Funeral Home with Pastors Mark Gowan and Mark E. Gowan officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Following the services, Jerry will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be four of his grandchildren, Christina, Christopher, Michael, and Jeffery, along with Mark E. Gowan and Leo Landry. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for our loved one and for the many prayers and love shown to our family.
