Mittie G. Byrd, 74, a native and resident of Morgan City, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at her residence in Morgan City. She fought a courageous battle against cancer for 12 years.
Mittie, a very caring person, was always helping others. After her work with Council on Aging, she would take her senior citizen friends on their errands and to the senior lunches. She was great with plants and was known as the "Plant Lady." Later in life, she was known as the "Garage Sale Lady."
She is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Donna B. Navarro and Dawn B. (Andri) Giroir; son, Donald E. Byrd Jr, and sister, Rosalie (Archie) Lovell, all of Morgan City; brother, Abel Nichols of DeRidder, La; and sister-in-law, Karen (Frank) Fink of Morgan City. She was a loving grandmother to B.J. (Carissa) Thibodeaux, Allen (Jessica) Thibodeaux and Ethan Cook, all of Morgan City; Kelly (Ruth) Cook of Paris, Texas, Kasandra Cook of Dallas, Texas, Lesley B. McCullough of Las Vegas, Nevada, Wesley Giroir and Kayley Giroir of Morgan City; and nine great grandchildren, Juliet Thibodeaux, Emma Thibodeaux, Lexi Thibodeaux, Bella Thibodeaux of Morgan City, Paige Cook, Lilly Cook, Grace Cook of Paris, Texas, Ryheem Satchell Jr and Nyel McCullough of Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bessie LaCoste Grow Sr; brothers, James Grow Jr, Wayne Grow, Ronnie Dover and Bobby Froreich.
