Willis “Dukey” DeHart Jr., a native of Bayou Dularge, died on Friday August 7, 2009, at his residence in Morgan City.
Willis, also known as “Willie” to many, was a man of deep faith, belonging to Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and AARP. Willis was a practical joker and a prankster and he enjoyed a good joke. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching war movies and wrestling. The cruises he took, the Disney trips, and casino trips were some of his fondest memories. He enjoyed French and Swamp Pop Music, and dancing. One of his specialties was boiling seafood. Above all the loves of his life, were his wife, his children, and his family.
Willis is survived by his wife, Rose Leonard DeHart, two daughters, Hope D. Daigle and her husband Roy, of Lafayette, Heaven D Waldron, and her fiancée, Irving “Bubba” Mitchell, of Morgan City, four brothers, Paul DeHart Sr. and his wife, Deanna, of Morgan City, Freman DeHart and his wife Linda, of Patterson, Allen Lee DeHart and his wife Gay of Bayou L’ourse, and Tex DeHart and his wife Kim of Bayou L’Ourse, two sisters, Linda Lirette, and Daile Bergeron, both of Bayou Vista, two grandchildren, Jacqueline Daigle, and Kyle Waldron.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marie Eunice Landry and Willis DeHart Sr.
Visitation will be at Twin City Funeral Home from 6 PM until 9 PM on Monday August 10, 2009 and resume at Twin City Funeral Home from 9 AM until 2 PM on Tuesday August 11, 2009. Funeral service will begin at 2 PM, by Rev. Courtney of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Willis will be laid to rest in the Morgan City cemetery with full military rites conducted by the East St. Mary Funeral Squad. He served his country during the Vietnam era.
