Mildred Dorothy Davis

Mildred Dorothy Davis, 89, a resident of Morgan City and a native of New Orleans, passed away on April 4, 2010 at Teche Regional Medical Center. Mildred was one of the founding members of the Sacred Heart Thrift Store and worked there until three years ago. Mildred was a member of the Catholic Daughters, she belonged to the Samaritans, the Thursday Ladies Group, the Bulletin Committee and numerous prayer groups. Mildred enjoyed crocheting, but her favorite activity was working in her garden. She was an avid gardener, with a very green thumb and was also a member of the African Violet Club.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Frances Stockdill and her husband Harry, one son Thomas E. Davis Jr. and his wife Betty, three brothers, Lawrence Vining and his wife Ruby, Julius Vining and Ruel Vining, one sister, Katherine Barras. She is also survived by five grandchildren, James, Thomas and Jerry Davis, Trey and Brittany Stockdill three great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Amanda and Lilly and a former daughtr-in-law and dear friend, Lynn Crappell.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Davis Sr., Parents, Mitchel Vining and Clara Clark Vining, three brothers M.C. Vining, Clarence Vining, Norman Vining Sr., one sister Vera Morgan and one grandson, John Allen Davis.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Twin City Funeral Home from 6pm until 9pm, the visitation will resume on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 9am until 11am. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11 am. Mildred will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
