Carolyn Breaux

Carolyn Blum Breaux, 78, from Morgan City, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at The Calcutta House in Lafayette, Louisiana. Carolyn was born in Morgan City to the late Milford and Rosalie on August 7, 1946.

Carolyn graduated from Morgan City High School in 1964. She received a bachelors degree from Nicholls State University in 1968. Carolyn was a lifelong educator, teaching elementary school for most of her career and making many lifelong friends along the way.

Carolyn was a devout Catholic, attending weekly mass at Sacred Heart and Holy Cross churches in Morgan City for most of her life. In later years, when she moved to Youngsville, she continued attending mass every week at St. Joseph’s Church in Lafayette, Louisiana and led a daily rosary group at Avanti Assisted Living in Youngsville.

Carolyn was especially devoted to her family her entire life. Born into a large Italian-American family, she grew up with four siblings and many, many cousins and extended family. She married Ira “Tommy” Breaux, Jr. on June 14, 1969, and was his devoted wife for 54 years. Carolyn was a dedicated homemaker, raising four children, and a very dedicated and involved grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved family gatherings, which often involved delicious meals that she took great pride in cooking. Her family and friends particularly enjoyed her spaghetti and meatballs, a Sicilian family recipe. Delicious EVERY time, she was often quoted as saying, “it’s not my best, but I hope y’all enjoy it.” It was over these many meals over the years that Carolyn brought her family together.

Carolyn had many lifelong friends and made new friends throughout her life. She loved to socialize and had a monthly pokeno group for over forty years. She was also an avid reader and shared her love of reading with her late husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for giving favorite childhood books, always with a handwritten message inside, to her grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by her four children, Claire Ventola (Ron) of Haddonfield, New Jersey, Jennie Foster (Martin) of Youngsville, Louisiana, Chris Breaux of Lake Charles, Louisiana and SusieBreaux (Lee Sherman) of Austin, Texas; her grandchildren, Matthew and Julia Ventola, Michael, Donald (Melissa) and Amber Foster, and Georgia and Ruby Sherman; her greatgrandchildren, Delilah, Dakota, Abigail, Axel, Atticus, and Harlee; her siblings, Carl Blum (Mary Ellen), Mary Tamporello (Louis) and Herb Blum (Denise); many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends. Preceded in death by her lovinghusband, Ira “Tommy” Breaux, Jr., her parents, Milford and Rosalie, her brother, Milford “Butch” Blum, her sister-in-law, Fran Blum, and her nephew, Lucas Doiron.
