Dick “Dickie” Stansbury, 86, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Oschner’s St. Mary.
Dickie was born September 11, 1936, in Morgan City, the last surviving child of Charles and Rita Breaux Stansbury. He was a 1957 graduate of Morgan City High School where he participated in multiple sports.
Dickie was a carpenter by trade. He along with his brothers and many of the Stansbury men built many of the buildings and homes in Morgan City and surrounding area. In 1984 he went to work for the City of Morgan City and eventually became the Supervisor of Public works before he retired in 2002.
He was an avid sports fan as well as player and coach in the local baseball and football leagues and could tell many stories about his former players, teammates, coaches and of course himself.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years Mary Grace Guidry Stansbury; their four children Brenda Dupre (Henry) of Belle Rose, LA; Mary Pickens (Michael) of Morgan City; David Stansbury (Shelly Cannon) of Evergreen, CO; and Nancy Goolsby (Kelly) of Stephenville, LA. Nine grandchildren as well as their spouses and children Chad (Crystal) Pickens- Chaz’, Harper, Haisley, Malachi, Braden, Maddox, Gabe; Lyndsy Dupre’ Springmeyer (Reid)Oden, Riley Ruth, Davis; Chase (Kimber Rhodes) Pickens- Payton, Lucas, Noah, Ella, Evan, Caroline; Laurie Dupre’ Smith (Bennett)- Hudson, Henry; Libby Dupre Noel (Ross)- Linden Kate, Eleanor; Savannah Stansbury; Sydney Stansbury; Mason Goolsby; Madison Goolsby. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Especially his niece Anna Stansbury Aloisio.
Dickie was preceded in death by twin daughters Darlene and Arlene; his parents, Charles and Rita Stansbury; five brothers, William “Bill”, Merlin, Owen, Huey and Jack Stansbury; six sisters, Rita Mae "Sister" Stansbury, Ella Ruth “Doodie” Mensman, Wanzie Cousin,
RoseAnn Williams, Rebecca “Becky” Aucoin, and Carolyn “Carol” Darce; Great Grandson, Zachary Tyler Pickens.
Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:30, with a memorial service following at 12:30 on February 20, 2023, at Twin City Funeral home of Morgan City.
