Dolly Ross Gautreaux

January 25, 1941 — July 23, 2022

Dolly Ross Gautreaux died peacefully on the morning of July 23, 2022 in Houma, LA at the age of 81. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, David Lee Gautreaux. Children, Susan Gray, Leslie Gautreaux (Rick Porche) and Scott David Gautreaux (Nicole). Grandchildren, Katie Kaai, Justin Meaux, Hunter Meaux and Brooke Gautreaux. Great grandchildren, Sarah Kaai and Charleigh Kate Meaux.

Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin Ross and Gretel Plessala Ross and her son-in-law, John Mark Gray.

Dolly and David recently moved back to Louisiana from Richardson Texas, where they enjoyed making new lifelong friends, adding to their art collections and traveling. They had previously lived in New Orleans for 34 years, where they were devoted members of Oak Park Baptist Church.

Through the years Dolly joyfully taught vacation bible school and participated in many church programs. While on a visit to the Holy Land, Dolly and David renewed their marriage vows in Cana. The ceremony was performed by their dear friend and brother in Christ, Pastor Gail Worth DeBord of Oak Park Baptist Church.

Dolly taught her children and those around her the Gospel by her actions. She was passionate about helping those less fortunate than herself. She was known for her tremendous sense of humor and could make anyone laugh in any situation. She had a gift for letting people know that they were special and loved. During the winter months in New Orleans she handed out blankets and warm clothes to many of the homeless. Dolly had a way with the elderly and treated them with respect, kindness and love. She always looked after the widows in her neighborhood.

In 1997 she and David made a mission trip to Kosovo with Samaritan's Purse to distribute clothes, building supplies and medications. This trip was the beginning of more lifelong friendships.

Dolly loved life, people, animals and gardening, always putting her family first. During her mother's Alzheimer's journey, Dolly cared for her for many years. Years later, Dolly was stricken with Alzheimer's disease, herself. Her husband, David, was a kind and steadfast caregiver to her until the very end. The Bible tells us in 2nd Timothy, 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Dolly and David did this together. The family would like to thank Home Instead of Richardson, TX. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Leona Dickens of Dallas, TX for her beautiful soul. Vicki Hatdor and Gerrie Pretzel of Richardson, TX gave us indispensable, loving support. Olinda Gros of Houma blessed us daily with her abundance of knowledge, devotion and wonderful sense of humor. Many thanks to the entire staff Haydel Hospice of Houma, especially Patti Voss, Germaine Caldwell and Debra Gorr, who continuously went above and beyond.

Pallbearers: Scott Gautreaux, Hunter Meaux, Justin Meaux, Ben Chaisson, Kawika Kaai, Rick Porche
