Dorothy M. Barrow

September 21, 1935 — May 18, 2021

Dorothy M. Barrow, 85, a resident of Bayou Vista, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at her home.

A native of Patterson, Dorothy was born on September 21, 1935 the daughter of Oscar Martin and Josephine Gianfala Martin. She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook.  Her Sicilian roots run deep as she hosted several stuffed artichoke cooking parties and gave them away to family and friends.

She was a devout Catholic attending Sunday masses, praying her daily rosary and over fifteen devotions.  She was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Patterson from childhood to her marriage, and a parishioner at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista her adult years. She taught catechism for ten years at St. Bernadette and she was involved with the annual St. Joseph altar most recently hosting her own this past year in March.

She was a member of the Patterson Garden Club holding the office of President for two years, and she was the District Chairman and State Chairman for the Cleanest City Contest. She was also a board member for one year for the St. Mary Parish Community Concert Organization.  She enjoyed attending and watching the talented groups that performed monthly.

She was a member of the St. Mary Parish AARP group and the St. Mary Parish Council on Aging where she attended monthly and weekly meals and bingo.  Her favorite activity with these two groups was staying after the function ended and playing cards with her lady friends.

Her greatest achievement was marrying the love of her life Joe and having three children that they raised.  Dorothy and Joe celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. They were members of the BFA (Barrow Family Association) and attended yearly reunions with Barrow family members researching their genealogy. They enjoyed traveling and made numerous friends across the country.  They became especially close to their Texas, Florida, Minnesota, and Canadian friends.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three children, Donna Barrow Hoya and husband Shane of Bayou Vista, Jo Anna Barrow Purvis and husband Jessie Jr. of Walker, Brett Martin Barrow and wife Charlene of Bossier City; six grandchildren, Alisa Ross McCary and husband Brad, Kyle Rodrigue and wife Amanda, Kendall Rodrigue and wife Annie, Derrick Barrow and wife Kessie, Andrew Barrow and wife Sharley, Brittany Barrow and fiancé Ryan Yeates; two step grandchildren, Nicole Breedlove and husband Ryan, and Heather Lockhart and husband Michael; 11 great grandchildren, Alexis Ross, Amber Demers, Katie McCary, Reagan Rodrigue, Rose Rodrigue, Louis Rodrigue, Blakely Rodrigue, Chandler Barrow, Baylee Barrow, Blake Barrow, Emilia Barrow; six step great grandchildren, Jacob McCary, Natalie Breedlove, Molly Breedlove, Adalyn Stoltz, Jude Lockhart and Ellis Lockhart.
