Emelina Borbolla Basas

Emelina Borbolla Basas, also known as Noni, passed away on August 3, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 13, 1941, in Santiago de Las Vegas, Cuba to Arturo Borbolla and Emela Borbolla de Con.

 

In 1966, she fled from her beloved country with her young children to protect her family from communism and provide them with freedom in the United States. Noni, was a devout catholic and loved her Sacred Heart Church family in Morgan City. She served her church in many capacities as a leader in the Spanish community, Catholic Daughters, a member in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux Council, the Good Samaritan, Matthew 25 emergency preparedness group, Eucharistic minister and in educating and preparing children and adults in the catholic faith. She volunteered in as many programs and events as available. She dedicated many years in providing and assisting in the Spanish mass and events at Sacred Heart. Noni was a well-known seamstress who worked nearly 30 years at Alumni Men's Shop. She loved everyone she met and always kept others in prayers. She will be missed by those whose lives she has touched during her 81 years, and especially by her dear friends and family.

 

She is survived by her children Mercedes Cepedas and husband Tomas, Julio Basas and wife Maia, Ana Basas Rogers and husband Buddy, Marta B. Walker and husband Kevin and her grandchildren who she adored-- Trent Basas and Alair Gaudet (Bryan);Brent Wiggins (Sarhi) and Sennet Wiggins (Kristin); Brandon Walker, Kristen and Lauren Himel (Phillip); Griffin Rogers, Hallie, and Eston Rogers; Angelica and CJ Anslum and Selena Cepeda; Patience and Josie Basas; great-grandchildren Nevaeh and Balian Wiggins; Christina and Sennet Wiggins; M and W, Elena and Elijah Gaudet; and Lucas and Parker Himel, and Emmit Cepeda; and her nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. She also leaves behind her special bonus daughter Bridgette Basas; sisters-in-law Mercedes Bassa (Francisco) and Raquel Basas (Raphael).

 

Noni was preceded in death by her husband Antonio Basas; brother Arturo Borbolla (MariaElena); parents Arturo and Emela de Con Borbolla; nephews Mauricio Bassa and Arturo Borbolla, grandson Matthew Walker, and great-granddaughter Noelia Wiggins.

 

Visitation will be held at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City on Friday, August 18 from 5pm-8pm with a rosary at 7pm. Visitation will continue at Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 am-11 am on Saturday followed by mass at 11 am and a graveside service at Morgan City Cemetery.
