Gary Dean Johnston

Gary Dean Johnston, 66, a resident of Thibodeaux, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Legacy Nursing Home in Morgan City.

Gary was born October 29, 1958, in Dumas, TX, the son of Harry Ollen Johnston and Nancy Atchley Johnston.

Gary dedicated 34 years of his life to McDermott, where he earned the title of supervisor. A true jokester at heart, he possessed the rare ability to brighten any room with his humor, ensuring that those around him always found reasons to smile. In his free time, Gary enjoyed working in his yard. Gary found pure happiness camping with his wife, Pauline, and their children, sharing the joys of the great outdoors and creating lifelong memories. His greatest pride came from being a devoted grandfather, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 28 years, Pauline Stephens Johnston; two children, Brittany M. Johnston and Chris M. Johnston; three grandchildren, Garrett Johnston-Fremin, Kaitlyn Fremin, Seth Johnston, and Dominic Johnston; three siblings, LaFon Ortis and husband Avery, Terry Johnston and wife Sheri, RoJeana Roberts and husband Mark; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nancy Johnston, niece, Victoria Johnston. 

The family would like to give special thanks to Sean Fremin, Jeri Robertson, and all the staff at Legacy Healthcare for their help and kindness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2025, at Twin City Funeral Home, with Brother Dustin Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, February 28, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Per Gary’s wishes, he will be cremated after services.
