Harold Elliott Rentrop Jr., 89, a lifelong resident of Bayou L’Ourse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Harold was born on November 17, 1931 in Bayou L’Ourse the son of Harold E. Rentrop Sr. and Gertilee Pennison Rentrop.
Harold served his country proudly in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. Living in the Bayou L’Ourse community all of his life, Harold was very well known in the community, and he was one of the founding members of the Bayou L’Ourse Volunteer Fire Department, serving for many years. He was also one of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus Amelia Council 8371 where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Harold was always known to tell a good joke and sit down to play a game bingo.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 69 years, Jeannette LeBlanc Rentrop of Bayou L’Ourse; ten children, Steve E. Rentrop Sr. of Bayou L’Ourse, James A. Rentrop Sr. and wife Aline of Biloxi, Mississippi, Ronald J. Rentrop Sr. and wife Karen of Juneau, Alaska, Randy C. Rentrop and wife Jamie of Lacombe, Joseph “Joey” Rentrop and wife Melissa, Mary Ellen Marceaux and husband Gary, Mark A. Rentrop Sr., Willie J. Rentrop and wife Rose, all of Bayou L’Ourse, Barry M. Rentrop and wife Wendy of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Bruce C. Rentrop Sr. of Bayou L’Ourse; 24 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Rentrop of New Iberia; two sisters, Polly Verret of Morgan City and Martha Lee Clements and husband Gerald of Bayou L’Ourse.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sr. and Gertilee Pennison Rentrop; two sons, Harold E. Rentrop III and Maurice Rentrop; one granddaughter, Dalaina Marie Rentrop; great granddaughter, Ariana Claire Farragut.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Twin City Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will resume from 8:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Twin City Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Joe Chacko celebrating Mass. Mausoleum entombment with military honors, will follow Mass in the St. Andrew Catholic Church Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
