Ira "Tommy" Breaux Jr.

Ira "Tommy" Breaux, Jr., 81, from Morgan City, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Avanti Senior Living in Youngsville, Louisiana. Tommy was born in Morgan City to the late Ira and Rita on January 30, 1943.

Tommy graduated as valedictorian from Sacred Heart High School and was awarded the American Legion Award for his exemplary character and citizenship. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Louisiana State University in 1965 and was a lifelong LSU Tigers fan. Tommy was a devout Catholic, serving as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and Treasurer for Holy Cross Catholic Church for many years.

He was devoted to his family, especially to his loving wife, Carolyn. Tommy and Carolyn were always seen together holding hands wherever they went. Tommy's favorite activity was spending time with his family, and he was a very involved father and grandfather. Tommy had many hobbies and interests through the years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing his crossword and Sudoku puzzles every morning with his cup of coffee, taking his "power" nap every afternoon and enjoying his glass of wine every night. Tommy also loved to sing and was an active member of the Tuneweavers for many years. He had a beautiful voice, played the piano by ear with no formal lessons and was often heard whistling a tune. Tommy also loved photography from an early age and his photographs, slides and videos of family and friends will be cherished. Before his retirement, Tommy was an executive vice president at First National Bank in Morgan City, where he loved working and developed great friendships over the years with many of his coworkers. Tommy was one of the most genuine people to those who knew him and he will be missed deeply. Tommy will always be remembered for his quick laugh, easy smile, gentle nature and happy twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes.

Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Carolyn (Blum); his four children, Claire Ventola (Ron) of Haddonfield, New Jersey, Jennifer Foster (Martin) of Youngsville, Louisiana, Christopher Breaux of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Susan Breaux (Lee Sherman) of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Matthew and Julia Ventola, Michael, Donald (Melissa) and Amber Foster, and Georgia and Ruby Sherman; his great-grandchildren, Delilah, Dakota, Abigail, Axel and Atticus; his sisters, Julie Logan (Jerry) and Jeannie Doiron (Jesse); many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Ira Sr. and Rita, his brother, Robert, and his nephew, Lucas.
