LaRita Kay Atkins Buck, 85, a native and resident of Patterson, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Terrebonne Place in Houma, surrounded by her loving family.
Kay was born June 7, 1939, in Newton, KS, the daughter of Henry Atkins and Elizabeth Warhurst Atkins.
She loved her family, if you were her friend, you were just as important! Christmas was her favorite holiday! She only made her delicious fudge for Christmas! Everyone wanted a pan full, not just a piece! She loved to eat! Some of her favorites were crawfish, crabs, steak, pasta, and sweets, as long as it was chocolate! She liked going to the Casino to play the penny and nickel machines. She loved bowling and traveling with her league. She loved to read. She collected books by authors she read and still checked books out from the library. Her nickname, "Elephant Kay" was due to her vast, 60-year collection of elephants! She loved to watch all sports and was a huge Disney fan! Kansas City Chiefs, she liked; New Orleans Saints, she did not! These past five years of her life were truly hard for her. We are heartbroken, yet relieved that she is home with her Heavenly Father. She is reunited in a new body, no pain, no illness, no broken heart, with all her loved ones and furbabies as she waits joyfully for us to be called home.
She will be truly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Miles Buck of Dallas, GA; her daughter, Sue "Suzie" Verdin and husband, Ricky of Houma; her sister, Shirley Darge of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren, Nicole Verdin, Jmikel Verdin, John Buck, Jr., and Zackery Buck, Sr.; 17 great-grandchildren, Collin Sr., Nikole, Nakele, Jaelei, Enslei, Rylei, Abigail, Jace, Anessa, Freya, Juliette, Silas, Caius, Zackery Jr., Reed, River, Rayne, and a new (boy or girl) due November; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Krue, Collin Jr., Kason, Zayne, Xaylon, and a new baby boy due November; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kay was preceded in passing by her husband, Riley Buck, Sr.; her parents, Henry & Elizabeth Atkins; two sons, Riley Buck II and John Buck, Sr.; one granddaughter, Audrey Rose.
