Laverne Manning “Yank” Stuchel, 71, a resident of Berwick, passed away February28, 2019 at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Yank was born on September 8, 1947 in Bennington, Vermont.
Being raised in Bennington, Vermont, Yank was a 1966 graduate of Bennington High School. Yank served his country proudly during the Vietnam War as member of the United States Navy Seabees. He dedicated over 40 years of his life to public safety, working as a police officer with the Berwick Police Department as well as being the managing deputy over the motor pool division with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was an auctioneer and had his own business, Auctions by Yank. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed playing chess and he showed his daughter how to play chess when she was six years old. He would always beat her when they played, but she did win a couple times! He also loved photographs and developing the film in his dark room.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two children, Belinda Stuchel of Farmington, Arkansas and Chance Stuchel of Berwick; four grandchildren, Brandy Stuchel, Aubrey Bliss, Charles Evans and Kimberly Evans; three great grandchildren, Jessie Stuchel, Michael Theiring and Shawn Tisdale; step daughters, Floris Hebert, Eileen Reinhardt, Mariam DiMaggio, Jodie Horschel; one niece, Guyla Bliss; two nephews, Darrell Christian Bliss and Foster Allen Bliss.
Yank was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Stuchel.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Twin City Funeral Home with a memorial visitation being held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
