We are sad to announce that on December 23, 2023, Maria Ofelia Trevino, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. She was born on October 21, 1932, in Tela, Honduras.
Maria Ofelia was a woman of immense love, faith and creativity, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by her family. She enjoyed taking care of her home and loved ones, cooking and sharing her life stories around the kitchen counter with family and friends. She loved to spend time outside, using her green thumb to care for her many plants, fruit trees and flowers in her yard. Maria Ofelia loved her family, friends, plants, her dog and the beach.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband, Ruben Trevino Sr., and her three sons and their wives: Ruben A. and Garnet Trevino, Mario and Mimi Trevino, and John Paul and Narcella Trevino. She was a proud grandmother to John Jr., Austin, Maria, Roman, Dalton, Alejandro, Gianna, Nathaniel, Miranda (MAT) and her great-granddaughter, Emersyn. Maria Ofelia was also survived by two brothers, Jorge Lauriano and Oscar (Arturo) Ordonez, and one sister, Alicia Borjos. Maria is preceded in death by her birth parents Maria Rubio and Ruben Suazo as well as the parents who raised her from age 10 when her mother died, Elena Gonzales and Levi Edwardo Lauriano; three brothers, Oscar Rubio, Salvador Rubio, and Gilberto Gallardo, and sisters Alicia Taylor, Haydee Pineda, Sagrario Trevino, Yolanda Gil, Emilia Castaneda, Marta Grayson Williams and Marina Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista, Louisiana, with Father Thainese Alphonse officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, December 29, 2023, at St. Bernadette Hall from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
