Funeral services will be held for Mark Jacob Butler, aged 66, who passed away on October 30, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was born on September 1, 1958, in Beaverlodge, Alberta, Canada. Mark is survived by his daughter Katie Leigh Butler and her boyfriend, Bryce Clements, and the light of his life his granddaughter, Bryleigh Clements. Mark is also survived by his mother, Jo Ann Hebert Butler, his sisters, Mary Landry (Stephen) and Jan Bado (Rick), as well as his brothers, Phillip Butler (Beth), Chris Butler (Kim), and Luke Butler. Mark was a beloved “Uncle Mark” to numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Ray Butler.
A passionate outdoor enthusiast, Mark had a deep love for duck hunting, cooking, and enjoying crawfish. He was an avid fan of 70s rock music, as well as a devoted follower of the New Orleans Saints and LSU football teams. The sea was Mark’s second home; he worked on various vessels, including tanker ships, cargo ships, tugboats and transport ships. His adventures at sea allowed him to travel the world multiple times, enriching his life with stories from different cultures. He returned home with thoughtful gifts and currency from the many countries he visited, and he eagerly shared his experiences and knowledge about places like Africa, India, Russia, Yemen, South Korea, and Spain.
Mark’s services will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City, Louisiana. A public viewing is scheduled for 10:00 AM, followed by a mass at 11:00 AM.
He will be cremated and burial to take place at a later date.
