Nicholas F. “Nick” LaRocca Jr., 68, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Nick was born on November 10, 1952 in Morgan City, the son of Nicholas F. LaRocca Sr. and Alice Adams LaRocca.
Nick graduated with honors from Louisiana State University Law Center in 1976 with a Juris Doctorate Degree. He dedicated his entire adult life to the practice and study of law, practicing law for over four decades. He served as an instructor in legal research at LSU Law Center, notary public qualifications and duties at Nicholls State University and family law at Peoples Law School. Nick always represented his clients with dignity, civility, ethics professionalism and integrated faith. He received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to the study and practice of law and was a published author in the Louisiana Law Review. Nick was also very dedicated to his catholic faith. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he served as a member of the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities and was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. In 2014 he became a Master Catechist with the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Nick also served as a teacher for the CCD Program at Sacred Heart Church as well as serving as a coach for the Central Catholic High School Mock Trial Team. He was a member of St. Mary Industrial Group, American Petroleum Institute, Louisiana State Bar Association, St. Mary Parish Bar Association, St. Thomas More Catholic Lawyers’ Association. Over the span of four decades Nick received many honors and awards in the law profession, from being inducted into the Phi Delta Legal Fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, to being inducted as an LSU Hall of Fame member. He was also awarded the Leadership and Outstanding Service Award as well as Outstanding Service Award with the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association. When Nick was not practicing law, he treasured every moment he was able to spend with his family and friends. The time he spent on the golf course and around the card table with his friends were truly treasured moments.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Katherine Thimmesch LaRocca of Morgan City; five children, Rosalyn Conrad and husband Ken of Berwick, Philip LaRocca of Morgan City, Hugh LaRocca of Morgan City, Mary Alice Fuhrer and husband Tony of Berwick, and Nicholas LaRocca III of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Parker Conrad, Katie Conrad, James Fuhrer III, Spencer Fuhrer, Emma Ann LaRocca; three siblings, Penny Kelley and husband Mike of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Kim Roth and husband Tommy of New Orleans, Chris LaRocca and wife Tara of Morgan City; numerous nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Sr. and Alice Adams LaRocca.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jay Baker celebrating the Mass. A visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Twin City Funeral Home. Following Mass Nick will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
