_ _ _ _ _ Rickey Akes, 63, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 15, 2024. While Rickey was a man of very few words and countless moments of silence (If ya know, ya know), he was a man of great impact. Rickey was eager and willing to help anyone in need whether it was simply lending a hand to neighbors doing yard work, someone needing help while out on the water in their boat, or cooking massive family-style meals for his employees at the office. Rickey would be there no matter the need. He thoroughly enjoyed doing things for others and his family was no exception. He loved to fish, hunt, and travel. In the last decade of his life, he looked forward to his yearly trip with his wife and their friends to places like Barbados, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. Rickey spent 40 plus years with Haliburton/Baroid on the Atchafalaya River in Berwick, Louisiana. He was a consistent, hard-working man that will be missed more than he would have ever understood because he wouldn’t allow you to get all emotional with him or his “allergies” would act up.
Rickey is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 27 years Clair Akes, his sisters: Martha, Linda, Joyce, Caroline, Theresa, his children: Adele Autin, John Akes, and Abbey Akes, his son-in-law Michael Roussy, grand-children: Zeddian Bertrand, Jae Duplechin, and Sloane Roussy, and his boys: Bree and Duke.
Rickey is preceded in death by his parents: JT Akes, Jane Laumann, his brothers: Jerry, David, and Clifford, and his favorite four-legged companion Bootsie.
