Therol R. “T.R.” Naquin, 97, a resident of Morgan City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home.
T.R. was born on August 5, 1924 in Morgan City, the son of Edward Joseph Naquin and Elodie Robicheaux Naquin.
T.R. graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, the Class of 1942. He served his country proudly by serving in the United States Navy during WWII. Being a devout Catholic, T.R. attended daily morning Mass at Sacred Heart and prayed his rosaries daily. In 2017 he was awarded the Diocesan Service Award for Sacred Heart Catholic Church of the Houma Thibodaux Diocese. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Jules S. Toups Council # 2076. T.R. was a fixture at the Annual Boy Scouts Supper, always helping to serve the meal and as a result of his many years of dedicated service, he was the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Citizen Award given by the Evangeline Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of VFW Post 4222 in Morgan City and was also a member of the St. Mary AARP, where he served in various officer positions as well as being a past board member.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Barbara McCleary and husband Pat and Gwen McHugh, both of Morgan City; six grandchildren, Mary Elaine McCleary Osborne and husband John of New Iberia, Jimmy McCleary and wife Teeny of Duson, Jason McCleary and wife Tracy of Morgan City, Keeley McCleary Woodfield and husband Woody of Brandon, Mississippi, Micah McHugh Morano and husband Shep of Montgomery, Alabama and Marcie McHugh Williams of Fairhope, Alabama; 12 great grandchildren, Mac, Hayden, Dylan, Ethan, and J.P. McCleary, Patrick Brooks, Katelyn Elaine Osborne, Colton Woodfield, Hank and Ford Morano, Laney and Lucy Williams; several nieces and nephews, especially Maureen Alfred.
T.R. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elaine E. Naquin; two sisters, Fay Alfred and Emeldean Miller; four brothers, Eldred Naquin, Edward Naquin, Cohe Naquin and Horace Naquin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a visitation being held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Recitation of the rosary at 10:30. Following Mass, T.R. will be laid to rest with military honors in the Morgan City Cemetery.
